Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashes

Azerbaijan AirlinesAn Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane, an Embraer 190, crashed near the town of Aktaou in western Kazakhstan on 25 December 2024.

Carrying 62 passengers and 5 crew members, the aircraft was on a flight from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to Grozny, capital of the Russian republic of Chechnya.

An initial assessment by the authorities revealed that 29 out of the 67 people on board survived the crash, 11 of whom were put in intensive care.

According to Azerbaijan Airlines, the aircraft made an emergency landing when the tragedy occurred.

Videos published by several media outlets show that the plane hit the ground before bursting into flames.

The Kazakh government has initiated an investigation to determine what caused the accident.
