On 15 May 2025, several Algerian regions were battered by torrential rains, triggering deadly floods.
According to the civil protection authorities, five people lost their lives and over 100 were injured. The search for another missing person is still underway.
The floods caused severe disruptions to traffic. In the city of Djelfa, located approximately 300 kilometers south of the capital, Algiers, two road bridges collapsed under the pressure of the rising water levels.
Heavy rainfall persisted across both northern and southern parts of the country into the evening of 15 May.
