Since 28 February 2025, Japan's northeastern prefecture of Iwate has been battling the country's worst wildfire in 50 years.
Firefighters are still working hard to contain the raging blaze.
The flames have destroyed some 2 900 hectares. One person has been reported dead, while almost 4 000 people have been evacuated. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Rain and snow fell in the region on 5 March 2025. Residents are hopeful that this rainfall will help contain the situation.
