Major snowstorm hits the USA

The central and eastern parts of the USA have been facing a dangerous winter storm since 5 January 2025, accompanied by heavy snow, freezing rain and bitter cold.

Weather forecasts predict temperatures as low as -18°C, with gusty winds in some areas.

Five deaths have been reported so far in the States of Missouri and Kansas. The capital, Washington, is also covered in snow.

More than 50 million people have been affected by the disaster, with almost 200 000 still without power.

The snow combined with the cold weather has led to power outages and poor traffic conditions. Air traffic was equally affected, as thousands of flights were either cancelled or delayed. The severe storm also resulted in school closures and road accidents.
