Munich Re announced, in a press release issued on 6 June 2025, its withdrawal from several climate alliances, namely the Net Zero Asset Owner Alliance, the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative, Climate Action 100+ and the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change.
The German reinsurer cited conflicting regulatory demands and legal uncertainties stemming from inconsistent legal and regulatory frameworks as the primary reasons for its exit, which have increasingly complicated the evaluation of private climate initiatives.
Munich Re will now continue its efforts to combat global warming independently.
