Santam Insurance to launch Lloyd's syndicate

Santam Insurance has received approval in principle for the establishment of a Lloyd's of London syndicate.

Final approval and underwriting authorization are expected in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending the fulfillment of certain conditions. The transaction also remains subject to regulatory approval in South Africa.

The new entity will operate under the name Santam Syndicate 1918, a tribute to the founding year of the South African non-life insurance group.

Operations are set to commence on 1 January 2026, with the syndicate targeting a first-year turnover of 300 to 400 million GBP (405 to 540 million USD).

This strategic move supports Santam’s ambitions to accelerate international expansion and advance its diversification goals.
