In a press release issued on 4 April 2025, the SCOR group announced that it had been placed under court examination, as a legal entity, for allegations against its former Chairman, the late Denis Kessler.
Kessler, who passed away in June 2023, is one of several individuals suspected of having attempted to derail Covéa's acquisition of PartnerRe. The French reinsurer is adamant however, that at the time of the events, the deceased was no longer the legal representative of SCOR, but rather the non-executive Chairman of its Board of Directors.
SCOR denied any involvement in the acts attributed to its former Chairman, as well as any responsibility in connection with the affair.
This examination will not affect the company's ability to continue its business as usual.
It is worth recalling that, in 2018, Covéa attempted to acquire SCOR, a proposal that gave rise to a major dispute between the two organizations. This conflict was brought to an end in 2021.
In 2022, Covéa finalized the acquisition of PartnerRe from the financial holding company Exor.
