The central and southern United States have been witnessing violent storms, accompanied by tornadoes and heavy rains since 2 April 2025. At least 17 deaths have been recorded as of 6 April 2025, including 10 in Tennessee, two in Kentucky, two in Missouri and one each in Arkansas, Indiana and Mississippi.
Several US states, including Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama, are still under flood alert.
The destruction includes damaged buildings, uprooted trees, and overturned vehicles. schools have been shut down in several regions, and more than 110 000 people were left without electricity.
According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. experienced nearly 1 800 tornadoes in 2024, setting a new record not seen since 2004.
