petra floodsSouthern Jordan was hit by sudden heavy rains earlier this week, triggering flash floods. High winds and dust clouds aggravated the situation, considerably reducing visibility.

At the archaeological site of Petra, parts of the facility were inundated, while more than 1 700 tourists were staying there. Two Belgian nationals taking part in an adventure tour in the Wadi Al Nakhil region, near Ma'an, also lost their lives as a result of the severe weather.

There were also incidents involving stranded tourists and herders in the Tafilah Governorate and Al Hassa District.
